What Is Starlike PRO Epoxy Grout?

Starlike PRO is Litokol's newest generation of premium decorative epoxy grout.

Unlike conventional cement-based grout, Starlike PRO uses a two-component epoxy system designed to create highly durable grout joints with very low water absorption and strong resistance to stains, chemicals and everyday wear.

What makes Starlike PRO especially interesting to me is that it combines those performance characteristics with design.

Grout does not have to be the material you select at the end of the project simply to fill the joints.

With 74 available colors, Starlike PRO allows the grout to become part of the tile design.

You can match the tile, complement it or deliberately create contrast.

Why Choose Epoxy Grout?

The biggest reason to consider epoxy grout is performance.

Traditional cement grout and epoxy grout are fundamentally different materials.

Starlike PRO's epoxy formulation offers very low water absorption, strong stain resistance, chemical resistance and excellent durability.

That can be especially valuable in areas exposed to water, food, cleaning products and frequent use.

Kitchen backsplashes, showers, bathroom floors, swimming pools and heavily used tile installations are all situations where those characteristics can matter.

That does not mean every project requires epoxy grout.

But if you are already investing in quality tile and want a premium grout system designed for demanding installations, Starlike PRO deserves serious consideration.

Starlike PRO Does Not Need Routine Grout Sealer

This is one of the most important differences between Starlike PRO and many traditional cement grout systems.

Starlike PRO does not depend on routine penetrating grout sealer to provide its primary stain and moisture resistance.

For homeowners, that can eliminate one of the maintenance tasks commonly associated with cement grout.

There is an important distinction when natural stone is involved.

The grout may not need sealing, but marble, limestone or another natural stone surrounding it may have its own sealing requirements.

Always evaluate the tile and grout separately.

Starlike PRO Is Available in 74 Colors

Grout color has become a much bigger part of tile design.

Starlike PRO's 74-color palette gives homeowners, designers and installers considerably more freedom than simply choosing between white, gray and beige.

The palette includes whites, creams, warm neutrals, grays, dark tones, earth-inspired shades and stronger decorative colors.

I recommend choosing grout color based on what you want it to do visually.

Match the Tile

Choose a grout color close to the dominant tile color when you want the surface to appear more continuous.

This approach allows the tile material, veining or texture to receive more attention than the grout joints.

Complement the Tile

The grout does not need to match exactly.

A warm neutral can complement cream stone.

A soft gray can coordinate with white marble.

A greige can work between warm and cool materials.

This approach gives the grout some definition without turning every joint into a strong line.

Contrast With the Tile

Contrasting grout emphasizes tile shape and pattern.

White subway tile with dark grout makes every rectangle visible.

Hexagon, penny round and geometric mosaics become much more graphic when the grout contrasts with the tile.

Contrast can look excellent, but it also makes grout-joint alignment and installation details easier to see.

Use the Starlike PRO Color Chart Before Ordering

If grout color matters to the finished design, I recommend spending time comparing colors before ordering.

Computer monitors and phone screens cannot reproduce every grout color accurately.

Lighting, surrounding tile, joint width and nearby finishes can all change how you perceive a color.

BELK Tile's Starlike PRO Grout Color Chart provides the complete PRO palette along with comparisons for customers moving from older Starlike EVO colors.

When possible, compare your grout choice with the actual tile rather than selecting color from the name alone.

Starlike PRO for Kitchen Backsplashes

A kitchen backsplash is an excellent place to consider epoxy grout.

Grout joints can be exposed to cooking oils, food splatter, sauces and repeated cleaning.

Stain resistance therefore matters.

With glass mosaics and other small-format backsplash tile, grout also represents a significant portion of the visible surface.

Choosing Starlike PRO gives you the opportunity to think about performance and color at the same time.

For a subtle backsplash, coordinate the grout closely with the tile.

For a stronger pattern, choose intentional contrast.

Starlike PRO for Showers

Showers are another application where epoxy grout makes a lot of sense.

Starlike PRO's very low water absorption, stain resistance and chemical resistance make it well suited to appropriate shower installations.

It can be considered for shower walls, niches, benches and compatible shower-floor tile when installed according to current product requirements.

But epoxy grout does not waterproof a shower by itself.

The shower still needs a properly designed and installed waterproofing system behind the tile.

Think of Starlike PRO as the high-performance finished grout surface, not as a substitute for the waterproofing assembly.

Starlike PRO for Shower Floors

Shower floors often contain mosaics with a large number of grout joints.

That makes grout especially important.

Epoxy's low water absorption and stain resistance can be valuable in this environment.

Color matters too.

On a penny round, hexagon, pebble or other mosaic floor, grout may represent a substantial portion of the visible surface.

I recommend choosing the tile and grout color together rather than waiting until the tile is installed to think about grout.

Starlike PRO for Swimming Pools

Starlike PRO can be considered for appropriate swimming pool and submerged tile installations.

Pool environments are demanding because grout is exposed to continuous water, pool chemistry and cleaning.

Correct installation and curing are especially important.

Follow the current Starlike PRO technical requirements for submerged applications and do not fill the pool based on a generic grout curing assumption.

The tile, setting material, substrate and grout all need to be appropriate for the complete pool installation.

Starlike PRO for Mosaic Tile

Mosaic tile is one of my favorite applications for decorative grout because the grout becomes such a visible part of the finished surface.

Think about a one-inch hexagon compared with a 24 x 48 porcelain tile.

The mosaic contains dramatically more grout joints.

That means grout color can completely change how the pattern reads.

Starlike PRO gives you enough color choices to treat grout as another design material.

With a geometric mosaic, contrast can emphasize the pattern.

With marble, a closer color relationship can let the stone receive more attention.

With colorful glass, the grout can either reinforce or soften the overall palette.

Starlike PRO With Glass Tile

Glass tile can interact with grout differently from opaque ceramic or porcelain.

Some glass is translucent.

Some is highly reflective.

Some specialty glass surfaces require additional care during grouting and cleanup.

The color behind and between the glass can influence the finished appearance.

For that reason, I recommend testing the complete combination when working with translucent or specialty glass.

Make sure the Starlike PRO color and installation method are appropriate for the particular glass tile before completing the entire installation.

Starlike PRO With Marble and Natural Stone

Epoxy grout can be used with compatible natural stone, but natural stone needs to be evaluated carefully.

Marble, limestone and other stones vary in porosity, finish and sensitivity.

The stone may have sealing requirements even though Starlike PRO itself does not need routine penetrating grout sealer.

Certain stone surfaces can also be sensitive during grouting and cleanup.

Testing the grout on a sample or inconspicuous area is a good idea when working with porous, polished or sensitive natural stone.

Follow the recommendations for both the grout and the particular stone.

Starlike PRO for Porcelain and Ceramic Tile

Porcelain and ceramic tile represent some of the most straightforward applications for Starlike PRO when the tile and installation are compatible with epoxy grout.

With larger field tile, the grout can disappear into the design when the color is closely matched.

With subway tile, contrasting grout can emphasize the repeating pattern.

With ceramic and porcelain mosaics, grout color becomes much more visible because there are more joints.

This is why I prefer choosing the Starlike PRO color while selecting the tile rather than treating grout as an afterthought.

Starlike PRO vs Cement Grout

Starlike PRO is an epoxy grout.

Conventional grout products are often cement based.

The difference affects water absorption, stain resistance, chemical resistance, installation, cleanup and maintenance.

Epoxy generally provides higher resistance to moisture and staining, while cement-based products may be more familiar to installers who have spent years working with traditional grout.

BELK Tile also carries MAPEI Ultracolor Plus FA for customers who want a high-performance cement grout.

You can compare both systems in our Tile Grout collection.

I would not choose solely on price.

Consider where the tile is being installed, how frequently the surface will be cleaned, how important stain resistance is and whether the installer is comfortable working with epoxy.

Starlike PRO Replaced Starlike EVO

If you have purchased grout from BELK Tile before, you may be familiar with Starlike EVO.

Starlike PRO is Litokol's newer generation of Starlike decorative epoxy grout technology.

It is not simply EVO in a new bucket.

PRO introduces a newer epoxy gel formulation, updated colored quartz technology, improved application characteristics, UV resistance, a wider grout-joint range and a redesigned color palette.

For a new installation, Starlike PRO is the generation I would choose.

If you want a detailed breakdown of what changed, read Starlike PRO vs Starlike EVO.

Are Starlike PRO and EVO Colors the Same?

No.

This is especially important if you are repairing or extending an existing Starlike EVO installation.

Starlike PRO uses a new color collection.

Some PRO colors are visually similar to former EVO colors, but similar does not mean identical.

Do not assume an old EVO color number has an exact PRO replacement.

Use BELK Tile's Starlike PRO Grout Color Chart to identify possible comparisons, then evaluate the actual color before making a visible repair.

Starlike PRO Grout Joint Width

Starlike PRO expands the recommended grout-joint range compared with the former Starlike EVO system.

PRO is designed for joints from approximately 1 mm through 20 mm.

That gives installers flexibility across mosaics, field tile, natural stone and other tile formats.

The appropriate joint width still depends on the tile, installation and applicable requirements.

Do not reduce grout joints simply because the grout itself can accommodate a narrow joint.

Tile dimensional variation and installation requirements still matter.

How to Install Starlike PRO

Starlike PRO is a two-component epoxy system.

Proper preparation is important because epoxy grout should not be treated exactly like conventional cement grout.

Have the tile surface, grout joints, tools and cleaning materials ready before mixing.

Parts A and B need to be completely combined according to the current instructions.

Work in manageable areas.

Fill the joints completely.

Begin the required cleaning process while the epoxy remains within the appropriate working period.

Do not allow epoxy residue to cure on the tile surface.

Before beginning your project, read BELK Tile's Starlike PRO Installation Instructions.

For technical classifications, curing requirements, chemical resistance and other specifications, review the Starlike PRO Technical Specification Sheet.

Is Starlike PRO Difficult to Install?

Epoxy grout requires a different workflow from conventional cement grout, but Starlike PRO was specifically developed with improved application characteristics.

Litokol describes the newer formulation as creamy, light and easier to spread and clean than people may expect from traditional epoxy grout.

That does not mean you can ignore the instructions.

Preparation and cleanup timing still matter.

An experienced tile installer who understands epoxy grout should have little reason to avoid it.

For a DIY installation, I would read the complete instructions and understand the working and cleaning process before mixing the product.

How Much Starlike PRO Do I Need?

Grout coverage depends on the tile and grout joint, not simply the total square footage.

Tile length and width matter.

Tile thickness matters.

Grout-joint width and depth matter.

A penny-round mosaic can consume much more grout per square foot than a large-format porcelain tile because it contains many more joints.

Use the Starlike PRO coverage information together with the dimensions of your actual tile and planned grout joint.

Do not estimate the number of tubs based solely on the room's square footage.

Does Starlike PRO Stain?

Starlike PRO is engineered for strong stain resistance, which is one of the primary reasons people choose epoxy grout.

That does not mean the installation should never be cleaned.

Food, soap residue, oils and other contaminants should still be removed as part of normal maintenance.

The advantage is that epoxy grout provides a dense, low-absorption surface that is much less dependent on a penetrating sealer for stain protection than conventional cement grout.

How Do You Clean Starlike PRO After Installation?

Installation cleanup and routine maintenance are two different things.

During installation, follow Litokol's current washing and residue-removal procedure while the epoxy is still within the proper working period.

Do not allow epoxy film to cure on the tile.

After the grout has cured, routine cleaning should be performed with products compatible with both the grout and the surrounding tile.

This is particularly important with natural stone and specialty glass because the tile may be more sensitive to a cleaner than the epoxy grout itself.
